The Adelson Advantage: Technology

Adelson facilitates creativity, collaboration and flexible learning by providing all students from kindergarten through 12th grade with intuitive, one-to-world Apple devices.

But when it comes to technology, the true Adelson advantage is our highly-trained staff and faculty who will help your child unlock the potential of technology for innovation and change.

EdTech Coordinator

Technology at Adelson is overseen by our EdTech Coordinator (Coordinator of Educational Technology), who holds a Masters Degree in Instructional Design & Technology. An Apple Distinguished Educator, certified Google Digital Educators Group leader and Nevada Digital Engineer*, the EdTech Coordinator provides training to faculty and direct instruction to students.

Technology Support

The EdTech Coordinator works with all teachers to integrate technology into curricula. Apple apps are frequently utilized, such as Keynote for presentations, iMovie for video editing, GarageBand for audio editing and Swift Playgrounds for coding.

Teachers and students also communicate and collaborate virtually with other apps such as Google Classroom, Veracross, and FlipGrid.

*Adelson seeks to be a leader in technology integration in K-12 education. In response to the pandemic, our EdTech Coordinator along with two highly-credentialed members of our staff joined the Nevada Digital Engineers initiative for the 2020-21 academic year to create resources for fellow educators and advance best practices for digital instruction throughout the state.

AECDirect Instruction

As a member of our faculty, Adelson’s EdTech Coordinator leads our high school’s Tech Biz program and middle school prerequisite courses. This includes a focus on coding that begins with basic programming in 6th grade, game design in 7th and 8th grades, and AP-level app development in 9th-12th. Students learn three programming languages: Swift, Java and MakeCode.

Our technology curriculum also includes annual units on how to be responsible users of technology. They cover online safety for the self and others with a strong anti-cyberbullying emphasis.

One-to-World Apple Devices

aceAdelson students and faculty utilize Apple devices, such as iPads and iMac Air laptops, throughout campus. These easy-to-use, creative tools give students freedom of expression and the ability to work on creative projects independently or collaboratively from anywhere, through multiple points of access.

Our faculty and staff teach students how to utilize these devices as one-to-world technologies, a conduit to safely and securely connect them to the world, foster an empathetic imagination to drive design thinking, and respond with innovative solutions to real-world problems.

Specialized Technologies

Our EdTech Coordinator, faculty and students frequently utilize the Startup Incubator, a versatile and state-of-the-art creation space with specialized tools that support our students’ work in design thinking, coding, fabrication and entrepreneurial applications. We are fortunate to have the resources to support our students’ passion projects.
